A Portishead pensioner who uses an old-school radio device to talk to family and friends has been told to remove a giant antenna from the side of his house after neighbours complained.
Ken Overton has been told to dismantle the 10ft aerial on the side of his house in Newhaven Place amid claims his CB radio device interferes with his neighbours’ TVs.
The 68-year-old, who rarely leaves his house due to mobility and anxiety issues, installed the antenna three months ago to talk to relatives in nearby Clevedon.
He said it was cheaper than using a conventional mobile phone or landline, and had helped him make new friends.
But Ken, who moved to Bristol from his hometown Birmingham nine years ago, now faces being temporarily cut off from his family and friends after being told to remove the external aerial by social housing provider Alliance Homes.
“They contacted me to say they have had several complaints from neighbours, who say it’s interfering with their TVs,” Ken added.
“But I’ve been using it for the past few months and I’m sure if it was affecting their TVs, they would have said something by now.”
Alliance Homes, which own the property, said Ken’s aerial had interfered with other residents’ TV and broadband signals and needed to be replaced.
