What is a VFO channel?

Postby m0lsx » Sun Jul 08, 2018 12:47 pm

Looking at the Anytone AT-6666 most sellers it seems claim it has a VFO Channel
What the :?: :?: :?: is a VFO channel :?:
A channel is a single frequency & VFO is a Variable Frequency Oscillator.
Anyone got any ideas?

Back in the day you could have a multi channel receiver that had fixed frequencies for each channel, except one, that was linked to the VFO knob allowing you to to be able to tune across the frequency range..

But in those days, before the RX warmed up & stabilised, each channel was capable of drifting across a fair amount of spectrum. This is a modern Tcvr & I cannot think of any modern Tcvr with a channel button that activates a VFO, although maybe it is just poor English being reprinted by sellers who know jack $h-- about the product.

As you say probably bad english.. The scanner I was thinking of was produced in the 1990's with 12 crystal contolled channels on a rotary channel select and a position for VFO tune on another rotary control, be buggered if I can remember it's name, came in 2 models 144 -148MHz and 156 - 160MHz..
