Uniden UBC125XLT not receiving

Postby Iain59 » Sat Sep 15, 2018 3:41 pm

Hi all my first post.
Had a scanner about 15 years ago cant remember what it was but it worked indoors picking up Heathrow transmissions well.
So I have just bought a new Uniden UBC125XLT and I cant receive indoors or outside anyway this afternoon I went and sat right outside Fairoaks and nothing received tried normal scan and close call. I am doing something wrong or do I have a faulty scanner?

What frequencies have you programmed into it?

None, is this a possibility can I just put in any one or does it have to be local?

The scanner has three types of Scans

1) Memory Bank Scan - Scan Channels
2) Search - searches predefined (adjustable) frequency ranges
3) Servise - e.g. CB, Airband, PMR etc.

With 1) you have to have programmed frequncies into the memory channels

With 2) and 3) ensure the SQUELCH is initially turned down to 0. Now the scanner will stop on all sorts of noise so bump the squelch to 1 or 2.

With 3) you are most probably going to get the most hits on the Aircraft (bank 5) band and possibly the Marine (bank 4) band if you are near the coast/port/waterways. CB (bank 6) may also provide some hits depending on CB activity in your locality.

Final, check out my Scan125 Control Program. It will cost you nothing and the User Manual will also possibly help with understanding the UBC125XLT better.

I've had it on all afternoon and it has gone through Band 1-9 pausing only for a split second for static hiss.

OK so I downloaded Scan125 to control the scanner and the only signal I am getting is a load of static probably from my laptop on 120.0000

Personally I NEVER scan all of air band. It is a massive chunk of spectrum & most radio traffic lasts only a few seconds, so you miss more than you hear when scanning a lot of spectrum.
If scanning Airband, I cut it into much smaller chunks of between 3 & at the VERY most 5 MHz.
Also ONLY scan between 118 & 136.9750 MHz. The 108 to 118 MHz chunk of airband is of no interest to 99% of us.
To hear anything, other than on a band scan. That is unless you are scanning between an upper & a lower frequency. You need to add frequencies to be "scanned."
Add some Heathrow frequencies to your radios memories &scan those. That should allow you to hear something.

Update another problem with scanner, batteries wont charge left on for 24 hours still says charging so I took them out put them in a home charger with 2 other flat batteries they still wont charge. So I tried 2 brand new heavy duty Panasonic batteries (switch changed in scanner) they lasted about 30 before being flat I presume this is not a normal amount of time to expect normal batteries to last. I have already requested a return through eBay.

I've had a 125 for quite some time now,and rapidly found out that charging batteries in the scanner is basically a waste of time.

I always use a wall mounted charger for my Duracell 2500 mAh batteries, which I also use in my camera flashgun, and they easily last a whole day for both.
