3500 not talking...

Postby AndrewIrvine » Tue Mar 12, 2019 10:55 pm

As in to my laptop. Drivers installed, same baud rate on the scanner as on the freescan programming, ran tests to find the com port being used, but the there is no communication between the laptop and the radio. I was working until recently. Personally I blame the laptop as I had to do a reset and a lot of my radio stuff hasn't worked properly since.

Can anyone think of anything else?

I have 4 sets of programmes, a programme for Ayrshire, Cheshire, Morecambe and one with all three. It saves the scanner having to go through a lot of channels etc not used in one area, but might be in another.

I can think of at least two things:

1. What does your device manager say wrt the com port? it may be that the driver has been replaced as part of your reset and therefore why it's no longer seeing your scanner

2. One of my 3500's has a bad COM port connection, and wobbles ever so slightly: requires a little bit of positive pressure to get it to connect. It's temperamental. Less likely for you but a possibility?

It's saying the best driver is installed, it can't communicate with the scanner. The baud rate is the same on both the radio and the settings. I get the feeling the lead is goosed.

Andrew basically the laptop has installed its own windows drivers go back in to device manager and when you click update driver don't let it search automatically not sure which version of windows you are using but on windows 8 it allows the option to browse the computer for the correct drivers.

plug the 3500 in to the laptop then in device manager look at the tab where is says view and then click show hidden devices if it is showing the 3500 as plug in (com ports) then update the driver but instead of automatically search click on where it says browse my computer and then if you got a cd let it search for the correct driver or you can point it to the location where the driver files are located.

also if the 3500 is all ready showing in device manager without clicking the view tab then the above procedure of updating the driver still applies.

I'll try that later. The device manager knows the lead is plugged in, although it says Com Port 1 no matter which port I put it in. I'm on Windows 10. Since I did the reset nothing has worked, even with someone else trying. I can't get the discriminator tap to work properly either.

Sounds like windows has done an update and replaced some drivers.

Still not getting anything. The port works, it programmes my RT3 / MD380 and my mouse works off it.

Are you using the Usb type cable or the serial type with an adapter?

USB. I've had it a while. I do a lot using the cable so not to add wear and tear to the buttons etc.
