That was my thought. If it provides more income from each book for the RSGB, but no one else. Then that is great news. But some extra money is going somewhere.

There's a pro and con to this.

Con - Once you purchase the digital media, it's linked to your account so you can't recover a few quid by selling on the book via eBay, rallies etc. The RSGB looses out on every book that is "recycled".

Pro - Some might find it handy to be able to use a PC, phone or other reader to study when as free time becomes available without always having to carry the book everywhere - lets face it, we usually have some device with us that allows us to view digital media. I would like to see the Full Licence book in digital format as I could make the use of free time where I may have not thought of taking the book with me.

Whilst there is a higher price, those that prefer digital format would possibly pay the price to have the convenience. One the other hand, if you don't want to pay the higher price, then there is still a book.

You could always scan the full licence book, or the parts you want to study more carefully.
Personally I read the Advance book a couple of time, but I made up a bundle of flash cards. One side had a Answer on it the other a question. but I had written them is such a way, that I could look at either side & thus got each point I wanted to learn in two versions. It is a great way of learning something, as flash cards are pocket sized.

Can't say from the RSGB book perspective, but digital downloads get passed on as almost normal. One person pays and downloads, then gives a copy to friends. Not radio, but in my business we used to sell quite large numbers of specialist CDs. When we started digital downloads the total quantity we would sell dropped, yet the number of establishments using them (for exams) remains steady. They all will have one. We know a few CDs were copied - we often find them on the shelves of places we visit, and the owners have dozens of CDs, yet we see a photocopied CD cover, and inside a burned CD. They're not bad people, but clearly one of the people bought one, then copied them for their friends at other similar businesses as everyone know each other. Our digital downloads use time expiring, random number downloads so they can't give it to somebody else. It doesn't stop them downloading and then passing on the actual music - probably the same as people passing on the RSGB digital download. Our printing and production cost for a physical CD worked out at 62p per CD, so not huge amounts of extra profit.
