weird signal in a strange place

Postby sinclairuser » Sat May 11, 2019 11:16 pm

while scanning recently i have discovered something potentially disturbing,
454.201.000 NFM, 454.675.000 NFM, NFM,454.400.500 NFM, 454.275.000 NFM.
these freq's seem to be arabic chanting, all different but constant 24,7.
it may be nothing but it could be important, i live in castleford west yorks 14 miles from the nearest mosque, so not microphones around here 449-460 mhz nfm seem to be pmr, infact the local xcape complex and freeport are on there which is why i sometimes scan there.

There are many mosques at 454 MHz, and in many other supposedly "business" bands, because OFCOM don't have the initiative to make use of the totally unused 26 MHz BROADCAST band, which being close to CB frequencies would work perfectly well for local comms such as this.

These are just the licences containing the word "mosque". Some may use "islam", or "muslim", or may not be obvious at all.

I'm surprised that the media haven't picked up on this mosque radio pseudo-network.

That said, broadcasting 24/7 is probably in breach of their licence, so an anonymous letter giving frequencies and times might get OFCOM to pay attention.
Anonymous, because our stupid out-of-date laws probably make it technically illegal for you (and the intended audience!) to listen.

You can buy mosque specific radios, they have been available for years.

Back in the 80's where I'm from, someone used to broadcast Church of Scotland services over CB radio.

I heard a mosque for the first time ever in Morecambe last night, 454.3875, it had a tone but I've forgotten it. When in Runcorn I can hear lots of them from a Liverpool like direction. The radios can be put in the houses of people unable to turn up. There is a mosque in Lancaster, the Lancaster Islamic Society (Masjid Noor) and the Moorlands Islamic Centre ... FV0MJGKH2Y
